Which Cumorah narrative makes sense to you?
In evaluating the Cumorah alternatives, here is a comparison chart to consider. It lists the alternative explanations of well-known accounts in Church history.

9. On the way from Harmony to Fayette, David Whitmer said he, Joseph and Oliver encountered an old man bearing the plates who said he was heading for Cumorah. Or David misremembered, intentionally misled, etc. The Saints book omits David Whitmer's explanation that this messenger was one of the Three Nephites who took the Harmony plates to Cumorah because David was confused or wrong. | 9. Graphically:
M2C was even depicted in the North Visitors' Center on Temple Square, with Mormon surrounded by Mayan glyphs in one hill, while Moroni is far away burying the plates in New York. Fortunately, that Visitors' Center has been demolished as part of the reconstruction of Temple Square.
The panels at the exhibit include Arnold Friberg's famous paintings of Book of Mormon scenes in Central America, along with other artwork depicting M2C. But they don't include Friberg's painting of Mormon on the Hill Cumorah in New York.

The New York (one Cumorah) setting as described by Orson Pratt:
“The particular place in the hill, where Moroni secreted the book, was revealed by the angel to the Prophet Joseph Smith, to whom the volume was delivered in September, 1827. But the grand depository of all the numerous records of the ancient nations of the western continent, was located in another department of the hill, and its contents under the charge of holy angels, until the day should come for them to be transferred to the sacred temple of Zion.”

Here is an account of Cumorah in Lucy Mack Smith’s History BEFORE Joseph got the plates. On pages 98 and 99, we learn that Joseph was sent to Manchester on business by his father. He was expected back before dark, but did not return until after dark and his parents were very worried. They asked Joseph why he was delayed 3 hours in returning home.
“Presently he smiled, and said in a calm tone, “I have taken the severest chastisement that I have ever had in my life.”
My husband, supposing that it was from some of the neighbours, was quite angry and observed, "I would like to know what business anybody has to find fault with you!"
"Stop, father, stop," said Joseph, "it was the angel of the Lord: as I passed by the hill of Cumorah, where the plates are, the angel met me, and said that I had not been engaged enough in the work of the Lord; that the time had come for the Record to be brought forth; and that I must be up and doing, and set myself about the things which God had commanded me to do.” See https://www.josephsmithpapers.org/paper-summary/lucy-mack-smith-history-1845/111
Lucy Mack Smith’s History is cited 128 times by Saints Vol 1 editors. Sadly, Saints editors mention this “severest chastisement” statement from Lucy’s history, but fail to mention the actual faith building statement by Joseph Smith about Cumorah. Lucy Mack Smith’s History mentions Cumorah, but Saints Vol 1, page 36 doesn’t mention Cumorah. The Joseph Smith papers have two references about this severest chastisement statement. Saints Vol 1 editors cite the first reference which doesn’t mention Cumorah. Also, the wording in Saints is very dissimilar to the source they cite.

Lucy’s original history was published in 1853, about 3 years before she died and eventually it became known as “History of Joseph Smith by His Mother.”
